Truth or Fact?

Via: Zoe Strauss
A great read from artinfo.com

"An artist’s job is to help make people think, to try to make something that will be part of the dialogue," "I know it’s hard — with photography in particular, it’s very difficult to find the line between photojournalism and fine art. It’s slippery in terms of how people perceive photography."- Z. Strauss

"But the emotional impact is what’s primary. Some artists are stylists. I don’t think of myself being one of them. I want the painting to have a sort of monumentality, drama, and artifice that pull the viewer into the narrative that’s going on." - S. Mumford

Frank Hurley.

I keep going back to look at these Frank Hurley photographs on NPR's Picture Show blog...especially the 2nd one here.

A few years ago I read about Frank Hurley, Ernest Shackleton, the Endurance and the Imperial Trans-Antarctic expedition in Alfred Lansing's book Endurance. As a photographer I was of course drawn to Frank Hurley's story and images. There is something about the 2nd picture here, something that grabs me, that I can't really explain.  I try to put myself in Frank's shoes and imagine what it was like to be there at that moment, so far away from everything, freezing cold, not sure if you would ever get home again...

My sister and her husband had a beautiful baby girl. So I am officially an uncle, and pretty pumped about that.
